Lovely Pineapple Flower Cupcakes

Yes, this is a totally edible cupcake. The flower looks freshly picked from your garden, but in reality, it’s food.

We’re now accepting your non-perishable foods at the following locations between today and November 30th. The Market District merchants will kick off the PEAS IN A POD Food Drive to benefit America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend with a press conference on Saturday, November 12th. At 10:30 AM, City of Tallahassee and Leon County will launch the event, along with Second Harvest’s Executive Director, Cheryl Phoenix.

We’re asking Tallahassee and area residents to bring non-perishable food to the district shops and businesses. Some businesses may offer incentives to encourage greater giving. We’ll add those to the POD in hopes of filling it up for Second Harvest.

Second Harvest also accepts CASH DONATIONS.

Food Drive to Kick Off this Saturday!

District Merchants Kick Off Food Drive for America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend

  • Tallahassee, Florida – The Market District is hosting a food drive and inviting Tallahassee and surrounding area residents to drop off donations at the PEAS IN A POD event beginning November 12th. The launch, in connection with Local Business Saturday, will commence with a press conference on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 10:30 AM on Market Street. Representatives from the City of Tallahassee, Second Harvest of the Big Bend and local businesses will be on hand setting the example with personal donations.

In an attempt to provide assistance through these difficult economic times, merchants on Timberlane Road and Market Street will collect non-perishable foods at their businesses. Thanks to PODS, one of the event sponsors of PEAS IN A POD, a POD storage unit will be on location in the district from November 12 – 30.

  • “Our hope is that all merchants will create an “in-store” incentive for customers to bring non-perishable food items for Second Harvest”, says Ten Thousand Villages Store Manager, Sherry Kelly. “Originally we were going to host a one-day collection as part of Second Saturday, but realizing the tremendous need in our area, we decided to receive donations through November 30th.” Throughout the nearly month-long campaign, merchants will bring collected food items to the POD where it will be picked up and distributed via America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend.

  • According to Second Harvest statistics,(www.fightinghunger.org) 1 in 6 residents in the Big Bend struggles with hunger. Their mission is to feed the hungry in the Big Bend and to educate and engage the community in the fight against hunger. The Market District sponsors recognize the need and are more than glad to give back to the community. Local sponsors include CMC Properties, Awards4U, Glasshopper Gifts, PODS, Prime Meridian Bank and The Market District.
